Education & New Developments 2019
From June 22nd – 24th, 2019, I attended the END 2019 conference in Porto, Portugal. The title of my presentation was:
Sociocultural and interactionist approaches to SLA: Are they compatible?
The starting point of my talk was that, although one might expect sociocultural and more conventional approaches to second language acquisition to fundamentally deal with the same phenomena, not only is the terminology used very different, but researchers in different traditions tend to ask different questions and use different methods to answer them. I suggest that a unified account is desirable, identify meeting points between various theories, and sketch out a proposal for such a unified theory.
