American Literature

Founded in the 18th century, the United States of America has a rather young history compared to the nations of Europe, with a similarly young literary history to match. This sense of inferiority seems instead to be a driving force behind American literature, as the US has been home to a wide variety of authors, who have created works in numerous genres. The American influence is a great one, and famed Japanese authors Kenzaburo Oe and Haruki Murakami were heavily influenced by American literature in their youth. The instructors involved with American Literature at PUK are in a constant state of progress, every day attempting to gain a deeper understanding of American Literature. Our classes are also designed so that, in addition to American novels, students are exposed to works in a variety of genres, including poetry and drama.
