Teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language is one of the four fields of study in the Department of Japanese Language & Literature, but is open to students of the Department of English Language & Literature. It is in fact a very popular choice among our students, many of whom write their graduation theses in this field, some of them becoming teachers of Japanese both in Japan and overseas. Students typically have opportunities to undertake fieldwork in countries such as the Republic of Korea, the People’s Republic of China, and Thailand.
